The Evolution of LeBron James

Writer: Rosey Denise Rosey Denise

I admire the man, the human being- Mr. LeBron James. He does a lot for the community, and I appreciate his involvement and passion on social issues. Particularly those that affect black people. He created a school in his hometown of Ohio, and has dedicated his money, time or support, to so many important causes. As a human being, I appreciate him using his fame for good causes, versus nonsense.

However as an NBA fan, I have never liked LeBron James. In my limited opinion, he has never been a good teammate or displayed those characteristics on the court, especially after a loss. He is a sore selfish loser. In other words, he can dish it out, but cannot take it when those tables turn. I remember those games in Cleveland, where he was expected to win, and didn't. He abandoned his team several times, heading for the bus rather than facing his critics and the media. To be honest, LeBron has had other games just like that, in Miami and as a Laker. As if he was the only one upset over the lost. I get that he is a superstar, and I do not deny his unbelievable talent. But on the court he has displayed such disrespect to his teammates so many times.

All of that has seemingly changed now, as LBJ and his Lakers are just five wins away, from winning an NBA Championship. Admittedly, I do not know much about the younger players on that team, as the names of Austin Reeves and others do not ring a bell in my decades of watching basketball games. However, I am very familiar with Anthony Davis, and how he is considered an elite by many analysts and fans. Even though he behaves more like a supermodel than a superstar on the court. Yes, if he is consistently invested, he is almost unstoppable. Yet, sometimes he gives the impression of a Hollywood Diva, rather than an all time elite center in the NBA.

Nevertheless, LeBron has rallied him, and the rest of the LA troops to power past the juggernaut Golden State Warriors, and he did it in just six games! Remember last season when the Lakers did not even make the playoffs? This season they barely got in, by having to win a play-in game first. None of this would be possible without LBJ and his growth. He has finally realized that teamwork, does indeed make the dream work!

The NBA is a professional basketball league, not a pick up game of one-on-one. We know that the superstars are going to shine, as they should. Still, it takes five guys to play with cohesiveness on a consistent basis, in order to win a championship. Not just one player. It appears that LeBron finally understands this, and is now utilizing this concept as another tool in his arsenal.
