The Toughman Boxing Contest was an international contest started by Art Dore and Dean Oswald in Bay City, Michigan. A contest of the toughest man which spanned across at least 76 cities nationwide.
RDW Creations had the opportunity to interview Toughman Victor, Hobbie Lyons, about the role boxing has played in his life, and the lessons learned that translate to everyday living and success.
Shame is Temporary and Purposeful:
Toughman Lyons is a man of humble beginnings, who allowed the adversity of life to push him toward greater things. Boxing translates to skills that apply to real living such as hardships, shame, and preparation. Here are three essential tips he suggests:
No matter what, keep moving forward.
Study/learn every single little and big thing about your challenge - collect all possible info.
Prepare as much as possible for any eventuality, no matter how unlikely - at least be aware of the possibilities.
Rocky was this toughman's original inspiration, where he learned the value of persistence. The story of Rocky is an American masterpiece of how everyday people can succeed. Rocky wasn't the most talented fighter, but he knew how to take and throw a punch. Being able to withstand adversity is a huge component of success in every area of living. Toughman Lyons experienced poverty as a youth and realized with this comes a level of shame.
Predicaments Not Final Destinations
Life isn't about what we achieve or lack, but according to this boxer, these desires (or lack thereof) are tools that lead to greater things. The lesson that suffering brings is to "try to keep in mind that this is not how it will always be. We are just currently in predicaments, not permanent destinations."
Fighting isn't always in the physical. Sometimes, people have to do whatever is required to survive, and this includes preparation.
