Tech Tuesday- Artificial Intelligence

Writer: Rosey Denise Rosey Denise

Long before I formed RDW Creations, I went to school for Computer Information Systems. I have worked in this field for the last 23 years in a variety of capacities. While I do not consider myself an expert by any means, I do have a solid understanding of how technology works.

AI or Artificial intelligence is a machine. You could even call it a super machine if you prefer, but it is indeed a computer no doubt. These machines or computers were designed by human beings. Remember: MAN makes the MACHINE, not the other way around. Most of us have been using forms of AI for years without even knowing, in example Google. Put any word, sentence or image into the Google search engine and it will yield results. Where does this information come from? The answer should be obvious: people/users.

I'm not sure exactly how Google was designed but I can safely assume based on my professional experience, that some Information was initially uploaded or programmed into this machine, like a database of sorts. This is how it is able to answer your questions so easily. But there is something else Google does- it retains the information each user inputs on the backend. It is literally impossible for the developers to enter every question and answer imaginable into the program. Like any other form of AI, google keeps or stores end-users inputs on the backend, so it can be used again for the next user. A computer is simply a machine that accepts (input) data from the user, and outputs results. Artificial machines are so advanced, it probably mixes and matches entries to avoid obvious duplicates.

When you choose to use AI, you are literally feeding the beast. It remembers what you entered and/or asked it for. That's how the machine is so "smart"- it is simply reproducing algorithm's based on previously entered information. There is no intellectual property rights when you use AI. It's like when you do those DNA Ancestry test. What do you think happens with your DNA information once you are done with it? It does not dispose of your information. It keeps a record of it for future references. I would even go as far to surmise that it stores those details in a massive database to keep tabs on people for future use, but I digress. This is what makes artificial intelligence so dangerously deceptive because the machine can mix facts with advanced technological fiction. Every time you use AI, you are giving it the "food" it needs to thrive. If one is truly afraid of AI, the simplest solution would be not to use it, and to limit the content you post online.

I am a published author and I do not use AI to create my any of my content. Why? Well because it would not be original. You can't possibly believe you are the only one who asks it that question, or for help do you? Thousands if not millions of users ask Google and other forms of AI the same questions, over and over again, each and every day. Humans are creatures of habit and the technology we use exploits this by keep track of our trends.

We cannot avoid technology. It is literally embedded into every area of human life. Everything from your banking, to schoolwork is being digitized. It's simply unavoidable....but that does not mean we have to be clueless as to how it works.

Once you learn the rules of a game, only then can you adjust the way you play it.

Happy Writings!
